Marcus Eriksen

After completing his PhD in science education, Marcus Eriksen traveled 2,000 miles down the Mississippi River on a plastic-bottle raft. In “Reeling in Refuse” (October 2011), he briefly reported on his experience in the Pacific Ocean sailing on a second such raft (for more on that trip, see www.junkraft.com). Eriksen and his wife, Anna Cummins, are the cofounders of the 5 Gyres Institute, www.5gyres.org. They live in Los Angeles.
